With the availability of PROFIdrive basic technology based on source code, there is now another way to integrate PROFIdrive in drives. PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) welcomes the new basic technology as an important contribution toward the widespread use of drives with PROFIBUS and PROFINET in applications.
The PROFIdrive drive profile defines a uniform, vendor-neutral interface and covers the entire range from simple frequency converters to high-end servo drives. Precertified source code, developed by the PROFIdrive Community Project and available free of charge, enables easy and cost-effective implementation of the PROFIdrive interface.
The Industrial NETworx Community is responsible for maintaining the source code. It also supports interested companies in integrating the source code and provides a platform for exchanging information and experience. Interested parties can find more detailed information at www.industrialnetworx.com/profidrive-profile.
A live 3-D model for this based on PROFINET with IRT and using Jenny Science axes can be seen at the PI Booth at SPS/IPC/Drives (Hall 6, Booth 210). Jenny Science, a medium-sized company located in Switzerland, used the PROFIdrive source code and the PROFIdrive implementation guide to react very quickly to customer requirements and equip its drives with a PROFIdrive interface. Here, an isochronous real-time (IRT) interface and PROFIdrive application class 4 were implemented for high-end motion control applications and PROFIdrive application classes 3 and 1 were additionally implemented for less complex positioning tasks. This gives PROFINET users an easy way to control compact linear motor axes.
Statement: Alois Jenny, Managing Director of Jenny Science AG
“With the availability of the PROFIdrive standardized drive interface on our servo controllers, users shorten their development time and are ideally prepared for the future. Thanks to implementation of PROFINET IRT, users can also immediately make use of all Siemens SIMOTION® technology objects.”
