SIEB & MEYER will present the new SD4x series at the SPS 2021, from November 23 to 25 in Nuremberg. The devices can work either as frequency converters in high-speed applications or as highly dynamic servo amplifiers. The development progresses with great strides: in 2022 the complete power range of the SD4S device variants will be available and SD4M will be ready for series production.
The SD4x series was started with a switch cabinet variant of SD4S with 800 W / 1.6 kVA. Since then the series has grown steadily. At the end of the second quarter of 2021, another construction size with 1,600 W / 3.2 kVA was available. The first SD4S variants make an optimal basis for the operation of high-speed spindles and motors in the power range between a few hundred watts and 1.6 kW.
«During testing at customer sites, these devices proved successful in various applications,» explained Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER AG. «Soon we can provide more functionally tested successor products for devices of the SD2S and the SD2M series.» In 2022, the SD4S series will be extended by additional construction sizes to cover and even extend the current power range of the SD2S series (1.4 to 55 kVA). In addition, the opportunities of the SD4x logic platform will also be available for SD2M models, which are equipped with state-of-the-art power electronics – the SD2M series will become the SD4M series.
«The central advantages of the SD4x product family are optimized performance, higher speeds and low motor heating without additional sine-wave filters,» summarized Torsten Blankenburg. «With regard to functions and control technology the SD4x series provides even higher gains compared with the predecessor series SD2x.» The new 32-bit processor is up to five times faster and therefore allows a higher resolution and more precise calculations. With the multiprotocol chip, which is used for the commercially established Ethernet-based interfaces, as well as useful additional functions like a real time clock the SD4x devices are well prepared for the future.
