Carlo Gavazzi, specialist in components for industrial and building automation, is presenting new components at the SPS 2021 trade fair in Nuremberg with functions that reduce waste in production and lower maintenance costs.

The manufacturer has integrated phase control, a soft start function and voltage compensation into the digital semiconductor relays of the NRG series, which transmit monitoring and diagnostic information to the PLC, for precise temperature control of heating applications. Furthermore, the control unit and gateway of the NRG series now also support EtherCAT. Functional expansions implemented by means of IO-Link in the new PD30 … IO series of photoelectric switches reduce the work involved, particularly for setup and maintenance.Another new feature is the logging function for reading out error messages in the three-phase RSGT soft starter for pumps and fans. For the first time, the manufacturer is presenting inductive sensors with E1 approval for the mobile machine sector. Carlo Gavazzi is now exhibiting in Hall 9 at Stand 450.

Controlling the temperature of heating elements in plastics processing as precisely as possible increases the quality of the end products. The new expansion stage of the digital NRG semiconductor relay keeps the output power delivered to the load stable by automatically adapting the control stage to fluctuations in the mains voltage. The compensation is carried out using an algorithm proportional to the specified target value. The high inrush current of IR heating elements is limited by the soft start function of the semiconductor relay. It enables startup profiles with a specified startup time or with a specified maximum current. The shift of the ignition angle through the phase control enables the power to be controlled with a very high resolution. The industrial Ethernet protocols ProfiNet, EtherNet / IP and EtherCAT are supported.

Smart sensors

The new miniature light barrier series with IO-Link communication was designed for applications such as packaging machines and conveyor systems in industries such as wood, plastic and metal processing. The sensors are fully configurable via IO-Link. Application functions such as speed and length, pattern recognition, dividing function and object and gap monitoring can be precisely adapted to customer requirements. Maintenance information through remote diagnosis is available down to the sensor level.

User-friendly soft starter family

The RSGT is a very compact and user-friendly fully controlled motor soft starter for 3-phase AC asynchronous motors from 12A to 55 A. A self-learning algorithm adapts its parameters to different applications and load conditions. A Modbus / RTU communication port with a 2-wire RS485 connection enables real-time monitoring and provides sufficient historical data for troubleshooting in the event of malfunctions.

Robust inductive sensors

Mobile machines are among the most difficult applications for sensors. Sensors installed in trucks, agricultural and construction site vehicles or truck cranes are subject to high mechanical and thermal loads as well as electrical and electromagnetic interference. With ICS E1, Carlo Gavazzi has developed a new series of robust, long-life sensors in sizes M12 to M30 with a switching distance of 4 to 22 mm, which can withstand the harsh operating conditions and enable reliable operation of the vehicle.
