Compact PSD direct drives now available with Industrial Ethernet buses

The PSD series from halstrup-walcher GmbH comprises a range of solutions for the automatic positioning of machine axes during format adjustments. The latest development in the series, the PSD 48x / 49x, is available with compact dimensions starting at 63.5 x 63 x 42 mm and offers an extremely space-saving solution with the same functionality as the slightly larger models. All PSD drives have an integrated control, bus interface, an absolute measuring system, and can be used without battery.

The positioning systems PSD 48x / 49x are now also available with Industrial Ethernet bus interfaces as standard. In addition to CANopen and IO-Link, the bus systems EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP are also offered.

Intelligent direct drives based on a modular product concept

The design of the direct drives has been constructed in such a way that the devices can be used as flexibly as possible in the machines. Both the plug connections and the optional attachment housing can be supplied in different directions of rotation. In addition to the type and rotation of the attachment housing, the products can be individually configured in terms of torque/output shaft, protection class, electrical connections and certifications. Furthermore, there is a choice of different software modules.

The expansion of the available bus systems to include Industrial Ethernet buses further increases the modularity of the PSD series. The widely used EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP protocols can now be selected as a standard option in the order key.

By connecting the positioning systems via IE buses, data such as diagnostic messages can be transmitted in real time. Condition monitoring of the direct drives enables trouble-free operation and reduces machine downtimes through predictive maintenance. Current and voltage monitoring as well as temperature monitoring increase machine safety and prevent the risk of malfunction. With galvanic isolation of motor and control system, bus communication is available for status feedback even during an emergency stop.
