OMRON C6 Series: a cost-effective EtherCAT servo system for everyday motion applications

Covering a power range from 50 W to 7.5 kW, the new C6 servo system features an EtherCAT interface and fits seamlessly into the Sysmac automation platform.

OMRON has expanded its motion control portfolio with the C6 Series, an AC servo system developed for straightforward machine applications. The range runs from 50 W to 7.5 kW and comes in two versions: single-phase 230 V and three-phase 400 V.

The C6 Series responds to the changing needs of modern machine automation. It provides reliable motion control at a competitive cost and balances performance, functionality and price. With it, machine builders can raise productivity, cut development time and strengthen their position in the market.

Compact design for faster panel building

Up to 3 kW, every servo drive in the series shares the same compact height. This makes cabinet layout simpler, shortens assembly time and lowers installation costs. Power, motor, encoder and built-in I/O all use plug-in connectors, so drives can be installed or replaced in very little time.

Modern technology at an affordable price

The C6 servo motor has a 26-bit high-resolution encoder. It can be configured as incremental or as absolute with battery backup. The drive offers a frequency response of 3.5 kHz. Full closed-loop control is also available for applications that need a second, external encoder.

Safety is built in as standard. Hardwired Safe Torque Off (STO) is certified to Cat. 4, PLe and SIL 3.

Positioned alongside the 1S Series

The C6 Series adds an affordable, up-to-date servo option to OMRON’s range for less demanding tasks. The existing 1S Series remains the preferred choice for high-performance, long-lifetime applications, with power ratings of up to 15 kW.

Full integration with Sysmac Studio

The C6 is set up, commissioned and maintained from the Sysmac Studio software environment. The same tool also handles NX machine controllers, NX I/O, sensing, vision and safety. Axis configuration is intuitive. Real-time, high-speed EtherCAT networking within one integrated development environment speeds up commissioning and keeps machines running reliably.
