Techman Robot’s TM AI Cobot S Series has been awarded IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 (SL2) cybersecurity certification after an independent assessment carried out by DEKRA. The result gives collaborative robots a verified security baseline for use in connected production environments.

Physical AI is leaving the demo stage and entering real production lines. As it does, robots are being linked to machines, manufacturing systems and data infrastructure. Perception, AI-based decision-making and physical execution are no longer enough on their own: manufacturers also want assurance about the cybersecurity of the products they install.

Adding trust to SEE · THINK · ACT

Techman Robot (TWSE: 4585) has built its collaborative robot architecture around the combination of machine vision, artificial intelligence and robotic execution. The company sums this up in its SEE · THINK · ACT approach:

  • SEE: the robot perceives and interprets its surroundings.
  • THINK: it makes decisions from the information available.
  • ACT: it turns those decisions into physical tasks.

To these, the company now adds TRUST: cybersecurity capabilities that have been checked by an independent body and serve as the basis for deployment.

What the certification covers

IEC 62443-4-2 sets out the security requirements for components used in industrial automation and control systems. It covers authentication, access control, protection of data and communications, system integrity and availability.

For manufacturers, system integrators and end users, the SL2 certification is an independently verified reference point when they evaluate the product cybersecurity of the TM AI Cobot S Series for connected automation applications.

Scott Huang, Chief Operating Officer of Techman Robot, pointed out that customers need to know whether a robot can operate safely and reliably within their manufacturing environment.

Cybersecurity across the product lifecycle

With equipment and production systems increasingly interconnected, cybersecurity is no longer limited to individual product features and now includes ongoing lifecycle management. Alongside the IEC 62443-4-2 SL2 certification, TM AI Cobot has put in place lifecycle cybersecurity mechanisms for vulnerability management, incident reporting and security updates. Techman Robot says it is continuing to reinforce these mechanisms in line with the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Reliable intelligence on the factory floor

The value of AI robotics in connected manufacturing depends on what it can do and on how reliably it keeps doing it over time. From built-in vision to built-in AI, Techman Robot’s stated focus is to bring intelligence into real manufacturing environments on a trusted foundation.
