Beijer Electronics has introduced Nexto XF, a new modular PLC for applications where availability and flexibility are critical. The controller pairs high processing performance with a scalable hardware design and an open engineering environment based on CODESYS. The aim is to help machine builders and system integrators create more reliable automation systems that are easier to expand.
High performance for demanding control tasks
According to the manufacturer, Nexto XF can execute up to 1,000 PID loops in less than 2 ms. That makes it a good fit for process control and for machines with many control loops running at the same time. It can be used as a standalone edge controller or as part of a distributed architecture with remote I/O and local data processing.
Linux, Docker and CODESYS on one controller
Nexto XF runs on a Linux environment that hosts CODESYS applications and Docker containers natively. Engineers can therefore run control logic alongside their own applications on the same hardware, such as data collection, analytics or communication services, without adding an extra industrial PC.
Programming, simulation, debugging and commissioning are all done in BCS Tools, Beijer’s CODESYS-based engineering software. Because it uses the IEC 61131-3 standard, teams can apply existing CODESYS skills and reuse code.
Built-in security and remote access
The controller includes a built-in VPN, a firewall and web visualization. These allow secure remote maintenance and monitoring without external gateways. The XF325 CPU shown at launch has two Ethernet ports, CAN, RS485, USB and an SD card slot, along with modular I/O on the same rack.
Designed for harsh industrial environments
Nexto XF has conformal coating to protect its electronics from humidity, dust and contaminants. This suits it to demanding sectors such as water treatment, energy, infrastructure and heavy industry.
With Nexto XF, Beijer Electronics strengthens its control portfolio with a scalable PLC platform that grows with the application, from a single machine to a distributed plant.
