The new PR205 compact controller from akYtec is a DIN rail-mountable programmable logic controller (PLC) with an integrated 2.4″ color graphic display (IPS, 320 × 240 pixels, 65,535 colors). It features six freely configurable function keys: visualization, display, and operation are performed directly on the device.
Thanks to flexible universal inputs, the PR205 can process signals from a variety of sensors—including temperature sensors, pressure transmitters, flow meters, and other devices—via four analog channels (PT1000, NTC/PTC, 0–10 V, 4–20 mA). The PR205 comes standard with an Ethernet interface (10/100 Mbit/s, Modbus TCP) and two RS-485 serial interfaces (Modbus RTU/ASCII). Programming is done using the free akYtec ALP software, which supports IEC 61131-3 languages such as function block diagrams (FBDs). Structured Text (ST) is supported.
Two models are available with the following I/O configuration:
- Digital Inputs: 6 standard + 2 high-speed counter inputs (up to 100 kHz)
- Digital Outputs: 6 relay outputs + 2 transistor outputs or 8 relay outputs
- Analog Inputs: 4 (universal, e.g., Pt500/Pt1000, NTC/PTC, standard signals 0–10 V/4–20 mA)
- Analog Outputs: 3 (0–10 V/4–20 mA)
The I/O capacity can be expanded with up to two PRM expansion modules.
The controller operates on a 24 V DC power supply (range 20–36 V) and consumes up to 8 W. It offers 224 kB of flash memory, 60 kB of RAM, and 2040 bytes of retain memory. The PR205 is designed for industrial use with an operating temperature range of -20 to +55 °C (storage -25 to +55 °C) and a humidity level of up to 80 percent without condensation. The housing is made of durable plastic, meets IP20 protection standards, has compact dimensions of 123 × 108 × 58 mm, and weighs approximately 350 g.
Practical Applications
The PR205 is suitable for a wide variety of automation tasks in both industrial processes and building technology. Its universal inputs allow for the direct connection of standard sensors for temperature, pressure, flow, or level measurement, eliminating the need for additional signal converters. The integrated color display not only visualizes process values in real time but also shows the current program status, making operation clear and simple.
With Ethernet and RS-485 interfaces, the controller can be integrated into higher-level systems via Modbus TCP/RTU or connected to online services such as the akYtec Cloud. Remote monitoring can be connected. Typical applications include the control of autoclaves and other process equipment in manufacturing, as well as ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems in building automation. In many cases, the PR205 replaces both a PLC and an external HMI, thus offering a compact all-in-one solution.
