The new AX6 collaborative 6-axis robot pairs safe human-robot interaction with intuitive no-code programming
Epson Robots, which describes itself as the world’s leading SCARA robot manufacturer, has added its first collaborative robot to its 6-axis range. The new AX6 belongs to the AX Series and uses power- and force-limiting functions to let people work closely alongside the robot. Provided a proper risk assessment is carried out, the AX6 can run without conventional safety fencing.
With this launch, Epson now covers every level of robot safety. Its lineup includes industrial robots built for maximum speed and performance, collaborative robots focused on close worker interaction and easy redeployment, and industrial collaborative solutions that combine both approaches.
“Collaborative robots have lowered the barriers to entry for many new robot users by simplifying programming and integration, while enabling new applications where space and user interaction are critical,” said Rick Brookshire, director, Product Development, Robot Development. “With the introduction of the AX6, Epson can now address these applications while offering customers a complete range of robotic safety solutions.”
Easy to program for every skill level
Epson designed the AX6 so that both beginners and experienced engineers can work with it smoothly. The robot comes with user-friendly no-code software and a clear, intuitive interface. Together with the AX Portal cobot software, it gives users a broad set of development tools to handle many different automation tasks. More advanced users can switch to a Python environment and upload their own libraries and modules to build more complex robotic workcells.
The AX6 also offers industrial-grade kinematics, so straight-line, curved and joint movements can be created easily in either the no-code or the Python environment. Before running a program on the real robot, users can check it in a built-in 3D simulator.
Lightweight carbon fiber design for tight spaces and cleanrooms
The robot’s arm is made of carbon fiber, which keeps it light, robust and compact. This makes it possible to build space-saving workcells. With an IP54 protection rating and ISO 5 cleanroom certification, the AX6 is well suited to collaborative tasks where floor space is limited or the environment must be tightly controlled.
Key features of the Epson AX6:
- Hands-on teaching at the end of the arm: Five user buttons, three configurable and two dedicated, let operators guide the robot by hand in free space and save positions with the Teach buttons.
- Tool-ready wrist: An Ethernet port and pneumatic connections at the end of the arm make it simpler to connect grippers, dispensers and other end effectors.
- Flexible power supply: The robot works with 100 V to 240 V AC as well as 48 V DC.
- Status at a glance: A multicolor LED ring on the end of the arm shows the robot’s current status with fixed color codes.
The AX6 is available now through Epson Robots’ network of distribution partners.
