Kassow Robots, the Danish cobot manufacturer majority-owned by Bosch Rexroth since 2022, has grown its line-up of seven-axis collaborative robots to seven models. The two latest additions, the KR1240 and KR1824, push the family into heavier and longer-reach territory, handling payloads of up to 40 kg or reaching as far as 1,800 mm while keeping the compact footprint the brand is known for.
Bridging collaborative and industrial robotics
The new high-performance models are designed to close the gap between classic cobot tasks and applications normally reserved for industrial robots. Compared with earlier Kassow models, joint torque has increased by 50%, wrist speed by more than 20% and mechanical stiffness by 40%.
The KR1824 targets large work envelopes. With 24 kg of payload and 1,800 mm of reach, it suits palletizing with tall stack heights as well as packaging, logistics and end-of-line automation.
The KR1240, on the other hand, is built for heavy handling. Its combination of 40 kg payload and 1,200 mm reach opens up processes that were previously out of reach for cobots, such as machine tending, heavy pick-and-place and the handling of metal parts or assemblies in demanding industrial environments.
EDGE editions for mobile and dual-arm robotics
Both new robots are available as EDGE editions, which integrate the controller and a DC power connection into a small base measuring just 194 × 229 mm. This option, offered across the whole portfolio, removes the need for an external control cabinet. As a result, integrators can build very compact cells or mount two 7-axis arms on an AMR or AGV to create mobile dual-arm manipulators.
At the same time, Kassow Robots has released its Connector App for Bosch Rexroth’s ctrlX AUTOMATION platform. Together, the stronger mechanics, the controller-in-base EDGE design and open connectivity to ctrlX OS devices and their ecosystem enable mobile robot solutions that combine heavy payloads and long reach while integrating smoothly into higher-level factory automation.
Why the seventh axis matters
Every KR model features an additional degree of freedom that lets the elbow (J7) change position while the tool keeps the same pose. This allows the robots to work close to their own base, reach around obstacles and carry out complex motion sequences in tight spaces, an advantage especially relevant for small and medium-sized manufacturers retrofitting automation into existing manual workflows.
According to CEO Kristian Kassow, the latest hardware and software updates make it easier than ever for customers to boost flexibility, scalability and efficiency in production and logistics. He highlights the EDGE editions in particular, noting that their payload and reach create new opportunities for mobile dual-arm applications and could pave the way for a new class of industrial humanoid robots.
