At SPS 2026 in Nuremberg, VEGA will show how level, switching and pressure instruments can feed data straight into networked automation systems. The German sensor maker will focus on Ethernet-APL, wireless IIoT radar, digital device functions and standardised data models. In addition, it will present free digital services that cover the whole instrument lifecycle.
Visitors can find VEGA from 24 to 26 November 2026 in Hall 7A, Booth 102.
Connecting the field level
VEGA starts from a simple idea: digitalisation begins at the measuring point. Therefore, the stand puts two connection routes side by side.
- Ethernet-APL: the two-wire Ethernet physical layer for process plants links field instruments directly to higher-level systems. As a result, process values, device data and diagnostics are available without extra gateways.
- VEGAPULS Air: these autonomous radar sensors send their readings wirelessly. They suit remote or hard-to-reach measuring points, and they deliver values for monitoring and inventory management.
On top of this, VEGAsense adds digital functions to the measurement itself. Users can operate, diagnose and document their sensors on site or remotely. In other words, a raw measured value turns into information for operation, maintenance and process optimisation.
Standardised device data
Communication is only half of the story. The other half is getting product and device data into customer systems without manual work. For this reason, VEGA uses several building blocks:
| Building block | What it does |
|---|---|
| VDI 2770 documentation | Structures manufacturer documents so systems can read them |
| Unique device ID | Lets systems identify each instrument and allocate its documents automatically |
| Asset Administration Shell | Describes each field instrument as a digital asset in a standard format |
| Digital twin | Follows the instrument from engineering to service |
| myVEGA | Gives authorised users current device information and documentation |
Thanks to the Asset Administration Shell, technical data, documents and service details travel between systems in one format. Consequently, manufacturers, plant builders and operators need fewer custom data mappings. Meanwhile, the digital twin keeps all relevant data in one place, from commissioning through operation and maintenance.
VEGAcare: free services around the measuring point
Under the VEGAcare name, VEGA bundles services that it offers free of charge. They include digital access to device information and documentation, instrument backups and service records. So when a service call comes in, the support team can work with the right data from the start. This speeds up analysis and cuts the back-and-forth between operator and manufacturer.
Why it matters for engineers
For automation engineers in the process industry, the value lies less in a single new sensor and more in the data path. First, Ethernet-APL removes the classic 4-20 mA plus HART bottleneck, so diagnostics reach the control system directly. Second, wireless radar such as VEGAPULS Air makes it practical to measure tanks and silos that were never worth cabling. Finally, VDI 2770 and the Asset Administration Shell matter to plant builders who hand over hundreds of instruments per project. Instead of copying datasheets into asset management tools, they can import structured data.
VEGA has already focused on the security and connectivity of its sensors in earlier launches, for example with the VEGAPULS 6X radar level sensor and cybersecurity rules. More news from the company is collected in our VEGA product news section.
