FANUC Europe is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company was set up in 1976 as one of the first international subsidiaries of FANUC Corporation in Japan. Today, its European organisation counts more than 20 subsidiaries. They sell, install and service CNC systems, robots and production machines.

From one subsidiary to a European network

In its early years, FANUC had only a limited presence in a few European countries. Over five decades, the company steadily added subsidiaries, service locations, technical experts and training centres. As a result, customers now get sales, technical, service and training support from local teams close to their plants.

The European headquarters is in Echternach, Luxembourg. Meanwhile, the parent company FANUC Corporation has been active since 1955. It operates more than 280 locations, serves over 100 countries and employs more than 10,000 people.

Product portfolio built up over 50 years

FANUC’s history began with numerical control and servo technology. Since then, the range has grown far beyond CNC. Today, FANUC Europe supplies the following product families:

  • CNC control systems and servo drives for machine tools
  • Industrial robots and collaborative robots (cobots)
  • ROBODRILL compact machining centres
  • ROBOSHOT electric injection moulding machines
  • ROBOCUT wire EDM machines
  • Digital manufacturing and connected production solutions

Together, these lines helped many European plants move from traditional production to connected, highly automated factories. In addition, newer machines focus on energy efficiency and on intelligent, connected operation.

“Service First” and lifetime support

Service is the second pillar of FANUC’s European story. The company follows its global “Service First” philosophy. In practice, this means lifetime support for its products and a clear goal: keep customer machines running.

This approach has built long-term relationships across many sectors. For example, FANUC equipment works in automotive, aerospace, medical technology, plastics, food and consumer goods plants. According to FANUC, this mix of products and local service helps users cut downtime. It also helps them optimise processes and invest in automation with confidence.

Why it matters for engineers

For machine builders and integrators, a 50-year presence is more than a marketing milestone. A dense local network shortens response times for spare parts, repairs and commissioning support. Long product support also protects the value of installed CNC machines and robot cells, which often run for decades.

Moreover, the same supplier covers CNC, motion, robots and machines. That simplifies training, spare-parts stock and integration work on mixed lines. To see where FANUC is heading technically, read our interview with Robert Koopmann, CTO of FANUC Europe.

Next steps: labour shortages and digital transformation

Looking ahead, FANUC Europe plans to keep investing in technologies and services for the main challenges of European manufacturers. These include labour shortages, productivity pressure, energy efficiency and digital transformation. Recent launches such as the FANUC R-2000/E series heavy-payload robots show this direction in practice.
