Dürr EcoRS Generation 2 robot platform for sealing and cleaning applications in automotive paint shops

Dürr has unveiled the EcoRS Generation 2, a new robot platform aimed at streamlining a wide range of paint shop applications. The lineup consists of four robot models, each tailored to different payload and reach requirements, all built to deliver strong process quality while cutting down on the complexity of planning, operating, and servicing the equipment.

Payload capacities across the four models span from 20 to 150 kg, with reach extending up to 3,100 mm. Together, they cover sealing, cleaning, and handling tasks throughout the paint shop. Because the series shares a common design, manufacturers can address a broad set of use cases from a single platform — simplifying system planning, spare-parts management, and servicing over the equipment’s entire lifespan. “With the new EcoRS generation, we are establishing a standardized platform for sealing applications. Customers benefit from high process quality, maximum availability, and significantly reduced complexity throughout the entire lifecycle,” says Martin Wurst, Product Manager at Dürr.

Purpose-Built for Paint Shop Work

Every element of the EcoRS series — the robotics, the controls, and the application technology — was engineered specifically for paint shop conditions. That tight integration delivers precise path accuracy and consistent material application, resulting in reliably high seam quality, especially for fine-seam work. The outcome is a stable, repeatable sealing process capable of meeting the growing demands placed on visible and functional seams in today’s vehicle bodies. A larger work envelope also gives manufacturers more room to adapt across different vehicle models and future production programs.

A Slimmer Footprint, More Flexibility

One of the standout upgrades in Generation 2 is the move to internal motors for axes 3 through 6, paired with internal cabling. This shrinks the robot’s interference contour and makes it easier to keep clean, while also trimming both its footprint and overall weight.

Rather than pairing off-the-shelf components, Dürr designed the EcoRS robots and their application technology to function as one integrated system. That close coordination between kinematics, controls, and process technology is what drives the platform’s repeatability and dependable operation.

One Control System, One Software Architecture

Robots, controllers, and application technology in the EcoRS line all come from Dürr itself. The platform runs on the same control technology used in Dürr’s painting robots and plugs directly into the company’s broader control architecture and DXQ software platform. That creates a unified system across the entire paint line, giving operators clear visibility into process and operational data across different plant areas and helping them spot optimization opportunities early. The shared control architecture also makes it easier to fold the platform into existing production setups.

Lower Operating Costs, Higher Uptime

A standardized portfolio means simpler maintenance, service, and troubleshooting. Fewer spare-part variants and leaner inventories bring operating costs down and support a lower total cost of ownership. Combined with the robots’ rugged build, the unified platform also boosts system availability — keeping operations running cost-effectively across the equipment’s full lifecycle.
