The fully integrated drives of the halstrup-walcher PSD family have received significant functional enhancements: in addition to expanded software options, the stepper motor-based direct drives are now also available with 48-volt technology. Thanks to the increased dynamics, more setup cycles can be completed in the same amount of time, further increasing machine availability.
These and other product innovations were presented by the drive and measurement technology specialist halstrup-walcher at this year’s interpack, the leading trade fair for packaging and processing in Düsseldorf.
48-volt technology: PSD with IO-Link and IE communication now offers more power
The compact direct drives of the PSD family can now be operated with either 24-volt or 48-volt technology as standard. Thanks to the voltage increase to 48 V DC, up to twice the speed is possible with the same torque, or alternatively, twice the force at the same speed: they offer high dynamics for more setup cycles and thus maximum machine availability.
The power upgrade is available for PSD with IO-Link or Industrial Ethernet protocol. Optionally, power can be supplied via an L-coded power connector for IO-Link variants.
Expansion of the Direct Drive Product Kit with Software Options
In 2026, the PSD product kit gained another communication interface with POWERLINK. When configuring drives in the current torque range of 0.25 to 8 Nm, users can now choose between six bus systems (POWERLINK, IO-Link, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, and CANopen), in addition to the mounting design, solid/hollow shaft configuration, various software extensions, and protection classes.
The Modulo functionality is also available for all PSD 4xx models, enabling continuous rotary motion without resetting (e.g., for rotary tables or reversing devices).
