OMRON has revealed a significant update to its FH Vision System that removes over-detection, providing quick and consistent results, regardless of textured, reflective, or varying surfaces. This simplifies the process for manufacturers to attain dependable, high-accuracy defect identification in difficult conditions, while enjoying a perpetual license for extended use.

The revised AI Defect Detection feature reduces over-detection by automatically choosing the best training images to develop its defect model. This avoids human mistakes and biases that may cause false positives, ensuring reliable and uniform outcomes. The system ensures complete reproducibility, yielding the same inspection results from the identical data consistently, without requiring expert intervention. Reduced images are needed for dependable detection, simplifying the setup procedure

The AI algorithm is specifically trained to distinguish actual defects from complex visual backgrounds. This includes challenging conditions such as weld marks, shadows, surface patterns, non-uniform textures, or reflections. Thanks to support for multi-line random trigger mode, a single FH controller can connect up to eight cameras, each triggered independently. This allows for simultaneous or asynchronous inspection from multiple directions or inspection points. One license covers all eight cameras, enabling efficient deployment across complex inspection setups using a single system.

With OMRON’s intuitive 3-step configuration process, manufacturers can deploy the system quickly and efficiently:

  1. Image preparation: Collect and separate images of non-defective and defective products.
  2. Annotation: Mark the defect areas on the images as if pointing them out to a colleague.
  3. Self-learning: Initiate the AI’s self-learning process with a single click.

The FH Vision System combines proven rule-based inspection with advanced AI capabilities, and enables flexible, highly accurate defect detection under variable conditions. With robust hardware designed for harsh industrial environments and a convenient perpetual licensing model, OMRON offers long-term access to advanced inspection technology without the complexity of ongoing subscriptions or specialist programming.
