Smarter automation begins at the sensor level. That idea is the core of Baumer’s presence at SPS 2026 in Nuremberg, where the Swiss sensor specialist shows how advanced sensing technology can shape the smart factory of the future. Machine builders, plant engineers and automation specialists visiting Hall 4A (stands 345 and 351) can see how the Baumer Sensor Solution Toolbox helps make engineering and plant operation faster, more efficient and more sustainable.

New encoders and distance sensors

This year’s highlights include smart encoders for demanding automation and drive tasks, high-performance time-of-flight (ToF) sensors and high-precision laser distance sensors. Baumer presents its expanded position and distance sensing range as the newly named “Global Company of the Year”. The award comes from the market research firm Frost & Sullivan. It follows a long list of product awards and Frost & Sullivan’s Enabling Technology Leadership Award, which Baumer received two years earlier for customer-focused innovation in process sensor technology.

Hands-on testing in the Sensor Test & Try Zone

Visitors can try the new products themselves in the Sensor Test & Try Zone. On a data sheet, sensors from different manufacturers often look almost identical, and the real differences only appear in practical use. At five themed display islands, users can check that Baumer sensors, with their high functional reserves, meet their specifications in real operating conditions and often exceed them, not only under ideal lab conditions.

IO-Link: performance depends on the complete package

The large IO-Link island is one of the stand’s main attractions. Baumer demonstrates there that digital interfaces only deliver their full potential when every element, from the sensor to the master, is designed to work together. With Baumer’s complete IO-Link package, cycle times below 1 millisecond are possible.

People and technology

Baumer’s message goes beyond the products. CEO Dr. Oliver Vietze stresses that the team’s commitment to solving customer challenges together matters as much as choosing the right sensor. He adds that SPS is a chance to show how the two together help customers get the most out of modern sensor technology, and to talk with machine builders and automation specialists about their specific projects.
