With its programmable platform G-Mation, GEFRAN aims to simplify the transition to industrial automation for users. It offers an open, scalable architecture that integrates numerous functions, from process control to data analysis. This allows new applications to be installed on machines and systems at any time without requiring machine modifications.

The plastics processing industry is characterized by dynamism and intense competition. When requirements change, for example, due to the use of recyclable plastics, plant operators quickly face a balancing act between production output, manufacturing quality, and cost efficiency. Digital technologies and automation help increase productivity, but their often complex structures present users with new challenges. With the programmable platform G-Mation, GEFRAN helps them achieve straightforward automation and greater flexibility.

Expanding functionality as easily as on a tablet

G-Mation is designed to simplify machine architectures and shorten development times. At the heart of the automation platform is the G-Mation P6 PLC. It enables real-time communication based on the EtherCAT protocol and offers cycle times of up to 250 µs. Thanks to integrated Docker technologies, it ensures the rapid and secure deployment of new applications, even on already installed machines. Numerous diagnostic and configuration functions can be easily integrated via a web interface, functioning as apps on tablets and smartphones.

Intuitive operation, just like using a browser

GEFRAN designed G-Mation’s modular architecture to ensure it does not compromise PLC performance. Individual I/O modules represent EtherCAT nodes, and the P6 can manage two separate EtherCAT networks. Compatibility with existing applications is ensured via CANopen and Modbus masters. The P6 PLC implements the communication standards MQTT, OPC UA, and Euromap for simple and secure cloud connectivity.

GEFRAN also prioritizes user-friendliness in field operation. The P6 PLC uses an integrated web server to create HTML pages for browser panels, as well as for PCs or tablets, for control and monitoring. This familiar form of visualization is scalable to any display size and offers intuitive operation.

Modernizing Plastics Processing Machines Faster

G-Mation is designed for plastics processing. The platform already provides application templates for controlling extrusion, blow molding, and injection molding. These templates can be used and configured on all common electric, hydraulic, or hybrid machine types. They serve as a starting point for modernizing existing systems and developing new machines.

In addition to the P6 PLC, the platform includes decentralized G3 I/O modules, V4x HMI panels up to 21 inches, and a W5x browser panel up to 24 inches. The G-Mation architecture is continuously being expanded.
