Industrial process monitoring often takes place in environments where dust, moisture and frequent high-pressure washdowns are unavoidable. IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH has responded to this challenge with the uEye SFA, a new addition to its uEye Live monitoring camera range built specifically to survive harsh production conditions while still delivering dependable live video.
Built to withstand harsh production floors
The uEye SFA carries an IP69K-rated enclosure, meaning it is sealed against dust ingress and can endure repeated high-pressure, high-temperature cleaning cycles — a common requirement in food processing, heavy manufacturing and outdoor installations. Screw-lock connectors add a further layer of mechanical reliability, reducing the risk of accidental disconnection or moisture intrusion in vibration-heavy settings. Power and data both run over a single Ethernet cable via Power over Ethernet (PoE), supporting cable runs of up to 100 metres — a detail that simplifies installation and cuts wiring costs in large facilities.
Sharp images even in poor lighting
At the core of the camera sits an 8-megapixel IMX678 sensor from Sony’s STARVIS 2 line. IDS product manager Marcus Rembold notes that the goal behind the uEye SFA was to give integrators a camera that is straightforward to deploy yet rugged enough for demanding sites, and that the STARVIS 2 sensor was chosen specifically to maintain strong image quality when ambient light is limited — a frequent issue in factory environments with uneven lighting.
Streaming flexibility for standalone use
Like the rest of the uEye Live lineup, the SFA runs as a standalone unit rather than depending on a host PC. It supports live video streaming, hardware-accelerated video encoding, and event-triggered recording, and it can run several parallel stream configurations at once. That flexibility is useful when different parts of a process need different streaming settings — for example, a lower-resolution feed for a live dashboard alongside a higher-resolution stream reserved for incident review.
Part of a broader monitoring family
The uEye SFA joins two existing models in the uEye Live series: the uEye SCP, built into the compact 29 x 29 x 29 mm industrial standard housing, and the uEye SLE, a single-board camera measuring just 45 x 45 mm for space-constrained installations. Together, the three models give system integrators several housing and mounting options for live monitoring across different types of industrial processes.
