KUKA Group and the German technology distributor KOMSA have signed a strategic partnership to bring autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to small and medium-sized enterprises. KUKA supplies the mobile robotics portfolio and automation know-how, while KOMSA opens up its indirect sales channel of IT resellers, systems integrators and channel partners across Germany.
Who is KOMSA?
KOMSA is headquartered in Hartmannsdorf, Saxony, and is one of the leading technology distributors in the DACH region. Its key figures:
- About 850 employees and annual revenue of roughly EUR 1.2 billion.
- A partner ecosystem of more than 10,000 resellers across several sales channels.
- A portfolio that covers classic distribution, value-added and managed services, and Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) models.
KOMSA’s business is connecting manufacturers, network operators and industry partners with consumer, business and enterprise customers. With this agreement, industrial mobile robots enter a sales channel built around IT and technology distribution rather than classic automation.
What the partnership includes
The cooperation focuses on KUKA autonomous mobile robots for material handling and intralogistics. The main points announced are:
- Center of Competence: KOMSA will act as the competence centre for KUKA mobile robotics, supporting selected channel partners through planning, implementation, commissioning and final customer acceptance.
- Joint partner program: a training and certification program for resellers and integrators is planned.
- Pilot projects: the first pilot installations are already running.
- Market focus: SMEs in Germany, especially in material handling and logistics.
The partnership was presented at NVIDIA GTC Berlin 2026 by KOMSA CEO and CFO Toni Burger and KUKA Group CEO Christoph Schell.
Why AMRs are hard to sell to SMEs
For a large automotive or logistics company, buying mobile robots usually means a project with an experienced integrator and an in-house automation team. A small manufacturer or distributor rarely has either. The barriers are often not the robot itself but everything around it: finding someone local who can plan the layout, integrate the AMR with existing IT and warehouse systems, commission it and support it afterwards.
KUKA and KOMSA want to address exactly that gap. “Automation is becoming a critical driver of productivity and competitiveness for an increasing number of businesses,” says Raphael Hegeler, Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy & New Business at KUKA Group.
What it means for integrators and end users
For IT resellers and systems integrators, the program offers a structured way into mobile robotics, with training, certification and technical backing from a competence centre instead of having to build robotics expertise alone. For SME end users, it means they can buy and get support for AMRs through the same regional partners that already supply their IT, which can shorten the path from first contact to a running system.
The move fits KUKA’s broader push in mobile robotics, which this year also included the KMF 1500P-CB autonomous counterbalance forklift and applications such as KUKA mobile robots in TV production.
