Demand for IO-Link has exploded in recent years. By the end of 2024, there were already 61.3 million IO-Link nodes in total. Murrelektronik also recognized this trend early on and launched a complete IO-Link installation system.

The digital transformation of industry is in full swing – and IO-Link is playing an important role in this. It is increasingly being said that IO-Link is the language of digital industry.

To stay with this image: Murrelektronik plays an active role in developing this language, already has a very broad vocabulary and is diligently learning more words. This is because one of the major advantages of IO-Link – to make electrical installation faster and easier through global standardization – fits in perfectly with Murrelektronik’s plug & play philosophy.

What’s more, IO-Link is ideal for implementing modular machine concepts – a key feature that characterizes all of Murrelektronik’s solutions. After all, only something that can be modified or expanded in a modular and flexible way is future-proof.

Standardization is the key to success

Simply plug it in and get started – the system is compatible with devices from multiple manufacturers, can be used worldwide and in new machines as well as for retrofitting existing systems. These features make Murrelektronik’s universal IO-Link installation system the perfect solution for getting started with digitization.

The term ‘system’ is meant quite literally here: from masters to a wide range of devices (I/O modules, analog converters, signal towers, pushbutton boxes, power supplies, and much more) to connection technology, Murrelektronik offers a complete, perfectly coordinated IO-Link portfolio – all from a single source.

With IO-Link, the sensor/actuator level can be seamlessly networked to the control system and, if required, digitized via a direct cloud connection.

In addition to single and double pushbuttons and signal lamps, the broad range includes the Modlight60 Pro, a signal tower with many interesting features.

With 20 and new 12 RGB LED discs, 21 adjustable colours and ten different light patterns, this IP 65 dust- and splash-proof signal tower offers flexible options for clear and eye-catching signalling, even in demanding environments, thanks to the optical separation of the individual RGB LED discs.

The brightness of the LEDs can be adjusted as required. The Modlight60 Pro also offers different operating modes. This allows users to implement multiple signal types with just one signal tower.

In addition, Murrelektronik also offers versions of the Modlight60 Pro with a buzzer for acoustic signaling.

No other daisy chain and multi-protocol-capable IO-Link master on the market is more compact and lightweight—for maximum efficiency from the sensor to the controller. In terms of numbers, they are 20 percent more compact and 2.5 times lighter than conventional fieldbus modules.

This saves space, material, and energy when mounting on moving plant components. Thanks to the innovative design, all components can also be separated from each other and thus recycled – a clear plus in terms of sustainability.

The comprehensive diagnostic options are also unique and patented: 4 corner LEDs and three LEDs per port make diagnostics easy, as the diagnostic and status LEDs are visible from all sides.

This means that any need for action is immediately apparent – and expensive machine downtime can be reduced to a minimum.

Speaking of cost-effective: The new pure.IO family also includes I/O modules that allow IO-Link to be looped through. This enables Murrelektronik to offer daisy chain topologies for power, fieldbus, and IO-Link for the first time, opening up a whole new dimension in terms of flexibility and cost-effectiveness: up to 256 I/Os can be networked with just one pure.IO IO-Link master. words.
