Siemens is showcasing new version 21 of its engineering platform Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal v21) at the SPS 2025 trade fair. The launch targets machine builders creating cutting-edge machines through an effective engineering process, as well as discrete manufacturing firms seeking to achieve stronger and more dependable production.

The ongoing enhancement of TIA Portal tackles industry challenges: increasingly brief product lifecycles, greater variant diversity, and a rising lack of skilled workers necessitating flexible, user-friendly engineering tools that also ensure top-notch software quality.

TIA Portal serves as a unified framework that consolidates all automation processes within one environment, provides open interfaces for IT/OT integration (Information Technology/Operational Technology), and facilitates testing and simulation capabilities, including digital twin applications. TIA Portal is notable for its uniform user interface, extensive visualization capabilities with SIMATIC WinCC Unified, and flexible deployment models – on-premises, via subscription, or in the cloud

Horst Kayser, CEO, Factory Automation at Siemens Digital Industries, said: “With TIA Portal V21 we are accelerating the transition to software-defined automation. Git-based CI workflows shorten development cycles, while high-availability SCADA architectures ensure that our customers can keep their plants running more efficiently and adapt them flexibly to new market requirements.”

Enhanced efficiency in engineering via optimized and cohesive workflows.

TIA Portal V21 emphasizes increased engineering efficiency and comprehensive standardization. A new export format allows for smooth integration of well-known version control systems like Git for the first time. This pertains to LAD, FBD, SCL, data blocks, PLC data types, mixed-language blocks, and several others. This allows STEP 7 users to take advantage of enhanced continuous-integration processes, easier versioning, and optimal compatibility. Everything contributes to reduced project durations and dependable tracking of all modifications.

Enhanced availability due to SCADA framework.

SCADA applications utilizing WinCC Unified can now function in redundant server configurations that guarantee uninterrupted operation and considerably enhanced availability. Moreover, the WinCC Unified Data Hub serves as a central repository, allowing access to and long-term retention of production data, messages, and audit trails from various WinCC Unified PC runtimes, facilitating sustained, plant-wide data visibility over extended durations
