Schneider Electric, is expanding its portfolio in the field of industrial drive technology. The Altivar 600 , Altivar 900 , and Altivar 340 series frequency inverters are now equipped with a new Profinet interface including S2 redundancy. A Profisafe option is also available for the ATV900 and ATV340 series, meeting the highest safety and availability requirements.

Safety functions and communication standards at a new level.

With the new Profisafe functionality, safety-relevant control functions can be implemented directly via Profinet – without any additional wiring. This saves time, reduces component requirements, and simplifies integration into modern automation concepts. The following safety functions are supported in accordance with EN 61800-5-2:

  • STO (Safe Torque Off)
  • SS1 (Safe Stop 1)
  • SLS (Safe Limited Speed)
  • SMS (Safe Monitoring Speed) – an additional feature that goes beyond the norm.

These functions enable the safe and flexible implementation of machine and plant concepts with the highest requirements for personnel protection and operational safety.

The new Profinet interface VW3A3647 offers S2 redundancy for high-availability communication and supports current protocols such as LLDP, MRP, and the iPar configuration server. Extended diagnostic functions according to Profinet V2.44 ensure maximum transparency and efficiency during operation. The VW3A3807 module is also required for Profisafe functionality.

Compatibility, Availability, and Target Groups

The new interface option is compatible with the entire ATV series as well as the ATS480 and ATS490. Backward compatibility with the previous VW3A3627 card is also ensured.

This expansion is aimed primarily at OEMs, system integrators, and end users in mechanical and plant engineering who rely on reliable, safe, and digitally networked drive solutions. With the new interface, Schneider Electric frequency converters can be seamlessly integrated into innovative control concepts – including redundant communication and safety-related functions.
