Siemens will be present at IFAT 2026, the leading trade fair for environmental technologies, demonstrating to visitors how digital solutions help manage water quality, wastewater treatment, and material flows in waste management more efficiently.
Siemens is expanding its portfolio at IFAT 2026 to include waste management alongside its established water and wastewater solutions. The expanded portfolio covers the entire waste lifecycle: from collection and sorting to treatment, recycling, and energy recovery. Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) portfolio enables efficient, safe, and integrated operation of recycling plants.
SIWA Quality Inspector for Water Quality
SIWA Quality Inspector is a new software module that enables data-driven decisions regarding water quality. It analyzes water quality parameters in real time—from treatment to the end consumer—and helps operators detect network changes early, such as water age, the effects of mixing in reservoirs, or quality deviations in distribution. This lays the foundation for more proactive operating strategies and preventive maintenance.
SIWA Treatment Optimizer helps plant operators with real-time process control.
Siemens has developed SIWA Treatment Optimizer for wastewater treatment. This software solution, based on physical models, helps plant operators with real-time process control. Digital twin technology also allows for the simulation of design scenarios. All SIWA applications are part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
Virtual sensors further expand the database: they continuously calculate process variables such as total suspended solids, biooxygen demand, and nitrous oxide emissions, even when physical instrumentation is unavailable. This provides operators with a more comprehensive view of actual process performance and helps ensure compliance with regulatory limits, even under fluctuating inlet conditions. Depending on the use case, energy cost savings of up to 25% can be achieved.
Amrutha Venugopal, Head of Siemens’ Water and Waste business, said: “Water and wastewater operations are often difficult to assess in real time, leading operators to rely on experience or safety margins. Our digital solutions bring greater transparency to process behavior. With SIWA applications, remote sensing, and real-time water quality monitoring, operators can make more precise decisions—for example, regarding aeration or chlorine dosing—reducing uncertainty, as well as energy and chemical consumption. These scalable solutions are designed for the realities of today’s plants and networks.”
The portfolio is rounded out by two additional solutions in the areas of automation and communications. Simatic WinCC Unified ResCon introduces a fully integrated load management system to Siemens’ Simatic WinCC Unified SCADA solutions. It automatically monitors and controls electricity, gas, and other utilities, helps prevent costly demand spikes, and provides real-time transparency into energy flows.
The CP1243-1 communications processor enables flexible integration of distributed assets across a wide range of industrial communication protocols, as well as modern cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms. With integrated IPv6 support, a web server, diagnostic functions, and event-based alerts, it is designed to meet the demands of modern, connected infrastructure environments
