SEW-EURODRIVE at SPS 2026: MOVI-C Security, OrchestrationSuite and New Drives

SEW-EURODRIVE SPS 2026 portfolio: MOVI-C controllers, cloud software, mobile robot and robot arm

SEW-EURODRIVE is using SPS 2026 in Nuremberg to show how far its offer now reaches beyond gearmotors. Alongside new servo motors, electric cylinders and planetary gearboxes, the Bruchsal-based company is putting the spotlight on engineering tools, energy management, software lifecycle management and cybersecurity, with a set of updates to its MOVI-C modular automation system at the centre.

MOVI-C gets security functions for the new EU rules

With the EU Machinery Regulation and the Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847) in mind, SEW-EURODRIVE is adding four groups of functions to MOVI-C:

  • User management to control who can access and change the system.
  • Logging to record what happened on the controller and when.
  • Secure updates for firmware and software.
  • Secure communication between components.

For machine builders using MOVI-C, this means part of the security groundwork that the new regulations demand is delivered by the automation platform itself rather than built project by project.

OrchestrationSuite and MOVIRUN smart: software and commissioning

The web-based OrchestrationSuite adds a software-management layer that is not limited to SEW-EURODRIVE hardware. Its main functions are:

  • Cross-vendor management of machine software.
  • CI/CD pipelines for automation projects.
  • Secure remote access to installations.
  • AI-assisted functions for PLC code, documentation and software analysis.

At the other end of the workflow, MOVIRUN smart is aimed at fast commissioning. It lets users configure a MOVI-C controller and its connected inverters without programming in an IEC editor, which shortens start-up for standard applications.

Storing braking energy with Power and Energy Solutions

SEW-EURODRIVE’s Power and Energy Solutions store the energy released during braking and reuse it in the following process cycles. The result is a lower connected load and lower energy demand for the drive system, so control cabinets and the electrical infrastructure feeding them can be dimensioned smaller.

Decentralized drives: MOVIDYN and MOVIONE

The new decentralized drive solutions move power electronics out of the control cabinet and closer to the motor, which reduces cabinet space and wiring:

  • MOVIDYN performance: drive unit with integrated power electronics.
  • MOVIDYN flexible: decentralized servo amplifier for installation close to the motor.
  • MOVIONE: designed for roller, belt and chain conveyors, usable as a compact drive unit or as a decentralized inverter, for example with the high-efficiency DR2C.. synchronous motors.

Both MOVIDYN variants use the same infrastructure and engineering environment as MOVI-C, so they fit into existing MOVI-C projects without a separate toolchain.

New servo motors, electric cylinders and gearboxes

Product What is new Typical use
ECM3C.. servo motors Explosion-protected, ATEX and IECEx compliant, four frame sizes Dynamic, precise motion in hazardous areas
LM3S.. electric cylinders New variants with open motor interface, additional spindle leads, oil-lubricated version Compact linear motion at higher speeds, easier maintenance
PxG economy Modular servo planetary gearbox kit for different load requirements, combinable with common servo motors Handling, packaging and pick-and-place
PxG integrated Gearbox and servo motor combined in one compact unit Highly dynamic axes with limited installation space

Why it matters for machine builders

The most relevant part of this SPS presentation is not a single product but the direction: compliance and software management are becoming part of the drive supplier’s offer. The EU Machinery Regulation applies from January 2027 and the main obligations of the Cyber Resilience Act follow in December 2027, so OEMs need user management, logging and secure update mechanisms on their machines soon. Having these functions in the controller platform, plus a cross-vendor tool for versioning and deploying PLC software, can save considerable engineering time.

On the hardware side, the ATEX/IECEx servo motors close a gap for dynamic axes in hazardous areas, and the decentralized MOVIDYN and MOVIONE units continue the trend towards smaller control cabinets.
